How to Prepare Mango for Each Age

6-8 Months: Puree

  2. Peel and cut flesh from pit
  3. Blend until completely smooth
  4. Serve at room temperature
  5. Mix with breast milk or formula to thin if needed

9-12 Months: Soft Pieces

  1. Cut ripe mango into strips (finger-length, width of your pinky)
  2. The pieces should be soft enough to squish between your fingers
  3. Baby can hold the strip and gnaw/suck on it
  4. Always supervise — never leave baby alone with food

We have noticed in our fields, many of our customers order Sindhri specifically for making baby food. Its zero-fiber, high-sweetness, smooth-puree qualities make it the perfect first mango for babies. We always recommend naturally ripened fruit for babies — never carbide-ripened.

Frequently Asked Questions

At what age can babies eat mango?

Babies can eat mango from 6 months of age — when they start solid foods. Mango is not a common allergen and is generally well-tolerated. Start with smooth puree for 6-7 month olds, progress to mashed texture at 8-9 months, and offer soft chunks for baby-led weaning from 9+ months.

Can mango cause allergic reaction in babies?

Mango allergy in babies is rare but possible. Watch for: skin rash (especially around mouth), hives, vomiting, or diarrhea within 2 hours of eating. The urushiol in mango skin can cause contact dermatitis — always peel mangoes for babies. If baby is allergic to cashews or pistachios, introduce mango cautiously.

How do I prepare mango for a 6-month-old?

Peel a ripe mango, cut the flesh from the pit, and blend into a smooth puree. No need to cook mango — it is soft enough raw when ripe. For first introduction, offer 1-2 teaspoons and watch for any reaction over 24 hours. Sindhri mango makes the smoothest, most fiber-free puree.

Is mango too sweet for babies?

No — mango's natural sugars are perfectly safe for babies from 6 months. Unlike added sugar, the natural fructose in mango comes packaged with fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Mango is actually an excellent way to help babies accept naturally sweet, nutrient-dense foods.

Which mango variety is best for baby food?

Sindhri is ideal — zero fiber, extremely smooth when pureed, naturally very sweet. Chaunsa is also excellent. Avoid fibrous varieties (Tommy Atkins, some Langra) as the strings can be a choking hazard for young babies.
